DRUG FREE COALITION OF HALL COUNTY

The Goals of the Coalition:
  1. To establish and strengthen collaboration among Hall County’s private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, and local governments to support the efforts of our community coalition to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth
  2. To reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults, by addressing the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse
  3. To develop and implement a plan to build the capacity of the coalition to ensure the coalition’s long-term sustainability
Vision Statement
Hall County is a thriving community of youth and adults making choices not to abuse substances.

Mission Statement
To empower the youth and adults of Hall County to choose a drug-free lifestyle by uniting citizens and organizations to reduce substance abuse through community-based education, awareness, and advocacy.

History
The DRUG FREE COALITION OF HALL COUNTY was established in February 2007 as a work group of the Hall County Commission for Children and Families.  The Coalition was originally developed through an organization that supported recovery efforts of individuals going through the Drug Court in Hall County.  Several community partners were approached regarding its formation.  Those were the Hall County Commission for Children and Families, United Way of Hall County, District 2 Public Health, Safe and Drug Free School for Hall County Schools, Christian Education Centers, Inc. (Center Point), and AVITA, the local mental health center providing service to adolescents.  These became the core group of partners for the Coalition and now serve as the steering committee.

Currently, the Coalition includes over 40 individuals representing 12 key sectors of the local community: Youth, Parents, Businesses, Media, Schools, Youth-Serving Organizations, Law enforcement agencies, Religious and Fraternal Organizations Civic and Volunteer Groups, Healthcare Professionals, State, Local, and/or Governmental Agencies, and Other organizations involved in reducing substance abuse.  It is a coalition of interested adults and youth working to identify and utilize the resources within Hall County to institute initiatives in effectively providing education, prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance abuse issues resulting in a thriving Drug Free Community.
